Welcome to SOW6123, Psychopathology!
This is the Summer 2008, Daytona Campus class which is taught as an "M" course. The way this will be achieved is that we will meet face-to-face every other week and will use the wiki the rest of the time. This format places more responsibility on you as a student to take responsibility for your own learning. Class time is generally used to discuss material already read and assignments from the past 2 weeks. Even though I will lecture on material I feel needs added emphasis, the time is best used when you come having already read the material and asking any questions you may have.
Since this is a summer session, the number of weeks is shorter so it means a lot of material coming at you in a short amount of time. When the class does meet, we will meet for 3.5 hours to make sure we have the required number of seat hours required by the university. I will try to keep the class moving and to have it be engaging.
The required texts are:
Pomeroy, E. & Wambach, K. (2003). The clinical assessment workbook: Balancing strengths and differential diagnosis. New York: Thomson.
Penny, D. & Stastny, P. (2008), The lives they left behind: Suitcases from a state hospital attic. New York: Bellevue.
Recommended:
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IV, Text Revision.
